Introducing New Artist...The New Protestants

A rock band. Driven by a burning passion for music. Dedicated to their craft.

When local Nashville band, The Loft, decided to call it quits in early 2009, the band's guitarist John Burke and drummer, Jon Biggs let the smoke clear while they set aside a regular time to jam together in an effort to keep the creative juices flowing. The band immediately turned to Burke's long time friend and musician Spence Carlisle to play bass and handle the keys from time to time. The three had always shared a mutual respect and appreciation for rock and roll, and their sessions gave them an outlet to write, play and record. In no time at all, the guys realized that there was something to this group of musicians. However, there too was something missing, a lead singer...

Over the course of the band's first year of development, they listened to and auditioned hundreds of vocalists before they found a kindred spirit in North Carolinian, Dan Volkman. Songs were exchanged and worked on over the internet, and the results immediately showed both promise and like-minded personal philosophies. To top it off, Volkman delivered these thoughts with an inspired, raw and unique vocal style as well as strong lyrics. His words were almost poetic, yet they echoed a certain rock 'n' roll sensibility.

Since the moment that they started laying down tracks, The New Protestants have appreciated a level of creativity, healthy artistic competitiveness and a great respect for one another that is few and far between for many artists. They are currently wrapping up production on early recordings with a possible release in spring of 2010, when the band plans to begin playing live.
